| Plg

Fibrinogen (Plg) is an important enzyme present in the blood (EC 3.4.21.7) that serves to dissolve fibrin blood clots. In addition to fibrinolysis, plasminogen protease proteolyzes proteins in a variety of other systems. It activates collagenase, some mediators of the complement system, and weakens the wall of the Graafian follicle, leading to ovulation. It cleaves fibronectin, fibronectin, thrombospondin, laminin, and Von Willebrand factor. It belongs to the serine protease family, as does trypsin.
