Beta-defensin 3 is a protein that is encoded by the DEFB3 gene.HBD-3 was first isolated from human lesional psoriatic scales. RT-PCR showed HBD-3 to be expressed highly in skin, trachea, tongue and tonsils, with lower levels found salivary glands, uterus, kidney, bone marrow, thymus, colon, stomach, adenoid, pharynx, and larynx.HβD-3 was first isolated from human lesional psoriatic scales. It has also been isolated from primary keratinocytes and lung epithelial cells pretreated with P. aeruginosa.Its ability to exhibit antibacterial activity at physiological salt concentrations towards Gram-positive bacteria and its involvement in adaptive immunity are of biological significance as compared to other human defensins.

| Linearity
