Basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor scleraxis is a member of the basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) superfamily of transcription factors.Diseases associated with SCX include Calcific Tendinitis and Epicondylitis.Plays an early essential role in mesoderm formation, as well as a later role in formation of somite-derived chondrogenic lineages.Contributes to E-box binding activity. Involved in positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Located in nucleus. Part of transcription regulator complex.An important paralog of this gene is TCF15.
