Secretoglobin family 3A member 2 is a protein that is encoded by the SCGB3A2 gene.The protein is a secreted lung surfactant protein and a downstream target of thyroid transcription factor. A single nucleotide polymorphism in the promoter of this gene results in susceptibility to asthma.Secretoglobin family 3A member 2 (SCGB3A2) gene is located on chromosome 5. SCGB3A2 is a small molecular weight secreted protein in airway epithelial cells, which is also referred to as uteroglobin-related protein 1 (UGRP1). It also plays an important role in anti-inflammatory activity. Several studies reported that it is involved in lung development and inflammatory reactions in the respiratory tract.
