Fasting insulin refers to the measurement of blood insulin levels after an 8-12 hour fast (typically in the morning before eating). It is used to evaluate the baseline secretory function of pancreatic β-cells and insulin sensitivity.Fasting insulin level is a clinical index reflecting the state of glucose metabolism.Indicate excessive insulin secretion or insulin resistance, requiring correlation with blood glucose levels for accurate interpretation.
